Change is what we need, change is what we should have

Changing on how the United States focuses their education policy on is in need of change, first what I would like to witness with the president-elect Obama and the oncoming years regarding public education would have to be less pressure on teachers with standardized tests. To start it off with NCLB and how it affects every teacher and the school as a whole, it would be nice to have some say from teachers in it and not just politicians. Look at how it affected so many schools who did not achieve the goals that this law put in. And the way to repay these schools that do not meet the criteria is by depriving them of money and resources needed to excel. So to reform NCLB would be a huge step on helping the students and schools. Adding to that, teaching these students how to take a test is not how education should be in this country. We need to teach these students how to think on their own, to challenge the information they are given and to think outside the box otherwise we are just breading more clones and this will not benefit the individual and country(could this be a reason why our economy is atrocious now?). Every student learns at a different level and different pace and to reach these children and to have them learn to the highest degree is what we strive for as teachers but with our education system it is kind of difficult to do.
My opinion is to take a look at the education system in Germany and model after them. Their students attend school much longer than we do; they value education more than we do in the states, so no wonder they are in higher grade levels than the United States children. Take a look at the test they administer the students; they are if not all essay type exams compared to our traditional multiple choice which only assesses students on the knowledge level and not the evaluation level according to Blooms Taxonomy. Isn’t that what we want these children to be at? So I just touched on a few aspects on how I would react to Obama. The Germans did start kindergarten so they knew something would help these children to learn to communicate, play, and interact with others appropriately. Like Obama said it is time for change. A change to help out our children is the first step.
